How To Get Better at Chord Transitions
Hey everyone, it’s David here! If you just clicked on this newsletter for the first time, hit the subscribe button to receive all the steps I took to learn guitar online. And to connect with me personally. It only takes a click of a button!
I hear you! You want to improve your chord transitions on guitar. I get it, they’re tough. That C major to G major chord transition almost made me quit guitar! It was that bad hahaha. Let’s dive right into it. The best tips I used to improve my chord transitions on guitar!
So there were about 3 major tips that really helped me master my chord transitions. The first tip was: Memorize the shape. You should make the shape of whatever chord you’re playing. For example, make the shape of a C chord on your guitar. Then lift your hand off the guitar, with the shape still being made with your fingers. Then, move your hand around all over yourself, with the chord shape still being made. Do this for about 30 seconds. And repeat it until you feel your hand starting to memorize the shape even more.
My next tip that helped me was, TAKE IT SLOW! Don’t try to rush the chord transitions. Really take it slow, and memorize the shapes. That’ll make you memorize the shapes even faster, and really get them down!
My last tip that helped me was, don’t transition one finger at a time. Try to transition all fingers at the same time into the new chord. That is not how we play guitar, transitioning one finger at a time. Transition each finger into its new position all at the same time, so you really get the chord shape down! 5 years ago I made a video explaining how to get better at chord transitions more in depth. I was still in high school when I made this video, so keep that in mind haha. But watch it if you want a more in depth look at chord transitions!
